Will cut price on Pre, as well

News from Sprint land is that they will be getting the new Palm WebOS handset, which will be known by the name of Pixi. To make way for the Pre's little brother, Sprint will slash the price on the Pre $50 to help keep sales going on the older model. In fact, if you just got your Pre in the last 30 days you will qualify to get your $50 back by calling Sprint.

The Pixi features pretty much the same version of the WebOS that Palm rolled out with the Pre, but the Pixi itself will be a tad smaller and feature a 2.63” screen with 18-bit color, with a resolution of 320x400, as well as the keyboard that is very similar to the Pre.

The Pixi has the bells and whistles that you expect from a standard smart phone with dual-band CDMA/EVDO Rev A support. While the Pixi does not offer Wi-Fi support it does offer GPS support. It comes with 8MB of flash memory, as well as a two megapixel camera with flash. The Pixi will also support the wireless Touchstone charging dock if you can afford the price of it.

While our sources didn’t give us an actual price on the Pixi, the word is that it will be less than the Pre with a two-year contract on Sprint. How much less we don’t know, but it is rumored that it will be a lot less. When compared to the Pre, the Pixi has a lot to offer, but not as much as the Pre. It could be that it is enough for some if the price is right, but not enough for others.
