It looks like Apple has closed the doors to the famous profile workaround that allows the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S to be tethered to any computer’s USB or Bluetooth connection using the AT&T network.

A new release of the iPhone OS software became available the other night to Apple SDK developers called OS 3.1 beta 2. Many details about the upcoming 3.1 software release remain under Non-Disclosure Agreement, however several have reported that the update will put an end to the IPCC profile workaround that enabled tethering without the consent of AT&T.

Unknown sources have confirmed a rather interesting feature in the new software update that we have been highly anticipating for the iPhone. The feature we are talking about is Augmented Reality, which essentially layers digital information received from the internet on top of real life input from a camera sensor, providing for an “augmented” information experience. Engadget has confirmed that beta 2 introduces “a public API for manipulating live video” which fits perfectly under the description of augmented reality on the iPhone, although only the 3G S model as of yet.
