Asus has announced a Smartphone with what has to be one of the fastest mobile phone processors to date, as the P565 features an 800MHz Marvell PXA 900-series CPU. However, this isn't all you get with the P565, as this Windows Mobile 6.1 professional device has a lot more to offer.

The handset is by today's standards a fairly average display at 2.8-inches, although Asus has gone for what appears to be a flush fit screen with 640x480 resolution, which makes up for the somewhat smaller size. The P565 has 128MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM, and the storage can be expanded via a microSD card slot.

It also has 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, USB connectivity for syncing, although sadly this is only USB 1.1. Then there's the 3Megapixel camera with auto focus as well as a front-mounted camera for video calls, and let's not forget the built-in SiRF Star III GPS receiver.

The P565 offers quad-band GSM connectivity as well as UMTS 2100MHz support, although the latter limits the countries you can use it in on 3G networks. It's also lagging behind in HSDPA data speeds, as it only offers 3.6Mbps, while most new handsets offer up to 7.2Mbps.

At 120g the P565 isn't too heavy and although it's quite wide, it's not too chunky at 102x60.5x16mm (HxWxD). Asus claims up to 3h talk time on 3G and 4h talk time on 2G, while the handset should offer about 250h of standby. It also comes with Asus' fairly recent Glide UI, which allows for easier finger navigation.
