The M8800

Samsung is set to launch its second 8Megapixel camera phone, although this time it's not a Smartphone as with the INNOV8 i8510. The M8800, as its model number is expected to be, runs Samsung's own TouchWiz interface, as seen on the Omnia and F480 handsets.

Apart from the fancy 8Megapixel camera with auto focus, face recognition, smile and blink detection and a 720x480 pixel video mode, the M8800 also has a wide range of other neat features. It has a built-in GPS receiver which allows pictures to be geotagged, it has a 3.2in touch screen display with 400x240 pixel resolution and a built-in accelerometer which seems to be all the rage these days.

Other features include Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, an FM radio with RDS support, 100MB user accessible memory, a microSD card slot, full screen virtual keyboard, handwriting recognition and DivX playback support. The handset has quad-band GSM support and tri-band HSDPA support with speeds of up to 7.2Mbps.

There's no support for WiFi, which might be a deal breaker for some and there's no dedicated headphone jack, as Samsung is sticking with its proprietary headset and charger connection, which is disappointing. Apart from that it looks like Samsung has come up with another impressive touch screen phone and at 107.9x54.6x14.9mm (HxWxD) and 110g, it looks set to compete with other similar devices in terms of size and weight, as well.

The M8800 is expected to hit retail as early as November and it's expected to cost around €550 without a contract.
