Audio and Video Hard drives

Western Digital announced a new family of hard drives for audio and video recording products one of today's fastest growing digital storage markets.

The company has designed new 3.5 inch WD AV hard drives with technologies and should provide increased reliability, cooler and quieter operation and low power consumption which are crucial for consumer electronics and surveillance environments.

The disks are available in capacities from 80 GB to 500 GB. Higher capacities, high reliability and cost effectiveness of hard drive technology have enabled a range of recording applications, personal video recorders, surveillance systems.

These applications have different requirements than average PC's, such as 24x7 operation, higher reliability, low power consumption and ability to record simultaneously multiple audio and video streams. As these hard drives are built to operate in 24x7 environments, they are rated at one million hours MTBF, which is higher then standard desktop drives. WD AV drives are currently available with EIDE and SATA interfaces.
