XFX offers reimbursement to GTX200 early birds

$120 for mental anguish damages

In a bold
and rather unusual move XFX is offering early adopters of its GTX200 series cards a $120 reimbursement, following Nvidia's recent price cut.

This reminds us of last year's Apple iPhone cash back deal, in which around a million iPhone owners were offered $100 store credit. Luckily for XFX and the consumers, this time around you're getting hard cash, not store credit, and the deal won't end up costing XFX nearly as much as Jobs' $100 million act of mercy.

You're eligible for the deal if you bought an XFX card between June 16, 2008 and July 11, 2008 and the actual amount of cash will vary depending on the model you got, as well as the date and price of the purchase, so it seems $120 is maximum amount you'll get.

Play hard is XFX's slogan, but this time around the company chose to play fair, and we're hoping other vendors will follow suit soon. Looking at the big picture, the high-end market is rather small, so those few beleaguered consumers will surely appreciate XFX's offer and the company will probably profit from it in the long run.

Brand building is never cheap, although we don't think this offer will cost XFX a heap of cash. It will probably generate a lot of positive press, especially in enthusiast circles, whilst keeping the consumer happy. So, in the end nobody gets hurt, we're all better off and XFX saves face. Sounds a bit like a cheap Latin American soap, doesn't it?

You can learn more about XFX's cash back deal here, and in case you apply, let us know how things turned out, i.e., how much you got for your GTX200 card. Like the Spanish soaps I mentioned earlier, we, too, need some gossip from time to time, just to keep things interesting, but I guess you've noticed that by now.
