Bigger is better

Palit Microsystems has announced two new graphics cards in its Super+ 1GB series. This time Palit decided to put 1GB on Nvidia's mainstream 8500 GT and 8600 GT cards.

Both cards are using the lower-priced DDR2 memory working at 400MHz (800MHz effective). The lower-priced 8500 GT works at reference 450MHz GPU with Shaders clocked at 900MHz. The 8600 GT Super+ 1GB works at 540MHz GPU speed and has Shaders clocked at 1190MHz. Both cards feature 128bit memory interface.

The lowest price for Palit 8600 GT is €87.39 but it is still not in stock. The lowest price for 8500 GT Super+ 1GB is €71.83, but it, too, is out of stock. Unlike 8600 GT Super+ 1GB, the 8500 GT can be bought for €75.34. Bear in mind that both cards use slower and much lower-priced DDR2 memory, so 1GB of memory on 8600 GT clocked below reference 1.4GHz just doesn't sound good. On the other hand, a 1GB 8500 GT does sound good.
