Mine is bigger

Nvidia has
just launched its newest addition to its Quadro line and this time the Quadro FX5800 has a 4GB memory that might come in handy in some workstation, rendering scenarios. This name certainly brings some memories, as Geforce FX 5800 series is probably the biggest failure for Nvidia since the beginning of time. Nvidia’s Jeff Brown, the chap that is successfully running this business, thinks that the name is appropriate and so should you, I guess.

ATI is known for releasing 2GB high-end gaming cards and in 2007 it launched the 2GB FireGL 8650 card and Nvidia obviously wants to set the standard higher, saying, yeah we can now release a 4GB card and ask $1,500 for it. We have already mentioned that Quadro business is ultra lucrative and that this is something that keeps Nvidia alive, and we are sure that Nvidia plans to keep the vast majority of market share that it currently holds. Nvidia still has at least 80 percent of the workstation market share and this has been the case for years now.

The Quadro FX 5800 is available and is after world dominance; and, of course, since it is based on GT200 chip it has 240 Shaders or cores (what Nvidia calls Shaders these days), while its 4GB of memory have 102GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The card’s maximal power consumption is a whopping 189W and it comes with dual link DVI, DisplayPort and Stereo connector. So far, Nvidia hides its frequencies; but we are sure we can find out if we just ask them nicely.
