Sony releases a firmware update for the PSP?

by on15 January 2015

Last firmware update was in August of 2011

We had to do a few double takes to make sure that we were not missing something here, but believe it or not Sony has released a new firmware update for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The last time that the PSP was new firmware it was way back in August of 2011. The new update is said to improve stability of the system software.

Only one problem, the firmware update which is version 6.61 is only available in Japan so far. Maybe this isn’t as big of a surprise to our friends in Japan as new titles are still scheduled for release yet this year on the PSP. In fact Brandish: The Dark Revenant was a digital release that came out this past Tuesday.

Sony has apparently indicated that the 6.61 firmware update for the PSP will be released in other regions at a later date. We doubt that it is a priority project for them to get this firmware out, but it is in the pipeline.
