Some had hoped that Electronic Arts would not use the online pass with its upcoming release of the rebooted SSX title. Hope all you want: EA is again using the online pass to curb the resale of the title.
While it isn’t clear what the online pass will unlock for those who purchase the game new, we suspect that it will again be primarily targeted at online play and use of the RiderNet (which is an AutoLog type feature).
EA continues to be committed to the concept; and given the fact that they are selling the online pass for $10 to those who buy the game used, the company must believe that the concept is working. A source told us that they have no reason to think that EA will change its online pass strategy and we should expect it to be included with each and every new EA release.
