No reason given for the delay

One of the most interesting concepts about Microsoft Game Room that was launched last week is the idea that as with the arcades of old, new titles would arrive in the Game Room weekly. From what we hear now, that plan has apparently been put on hold for the time being.

Apparently, with no actual reason given, Microsoft will not be deploying any new gaming offerings into the Game Room until at least late April. While our sources have weighed in on the subject, it seems even they are baffled by Microsoft’s decision to delay the addition of new titles. One mole has suggested that Microsoft is in the process of applying fixes and tweaks to the Game Room and that is the reason for the delay, as well as some final work with title rights owners that have not been completed yet.

Rumors continue that Activision 2600 titles were slated to be a part of the Game Room’s offerings, but Microsoft and Activision have been unable to reach an agreement. Whispers that we hear suggest that it might have to do with both the pricing and the cut that Activision would receive, which apparently Activision believes just isn’t enough.

Some are suggesting that Microsoft needs another release of titles prior to late April in order to continue the momentum of the launch. Despite plans in the pipeline for weekly additions, it could be that with the titles currently in the Game Room, it will be difficult to sustain interest till the next set of title releases. All we can say is if they have to wait till late April they are going to need some blockbuster headline titles with that release to draw people back to the Game Room.
