Attempt to promote the game to ramp up sales

Electronic Arts will be releasing the demo for the latest installment in the Skate franchise, known better as Skate 3 on April 15th. This release of the demo is an interesting choice by EA, as this would put the demo out almost a month ahead of the title’s release. The thinking, of course, is that it will be a good promotional tool to help ramp up sales.

The demo release on April 15th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation network will come ahead of the full title’s release at retail which is currently slated for May 11th. The demo will give players a lot of time to explore the game and get a feel for the sequel prior to the game’s actual release.

According to reports, at least some of the multiplayer support will be enabled for use in the demo to allow players to get a feel for the online support in the title.

Early previews suggest a more extensive and robust multiplayer component is part of the third release in the franchise. Previews are also suggesting that this release adds a lot to the franchise, which will make it hard for competitors to catch up. Both Ubisoft, which is a newcomer to the skateboarding games as well as Activision, who released the recent Tony Hawk Ride which was a total flop, will be watching this release closely to gauge what they are going to need to do to compete with their upcoming releases. Currently, neither company has announced a release date for their respective skateboarding titles, but from the whispers we hear, we expect at least one of them to be announced at E3.
