Ubisoft to release last M rated title for Wii U

by on20 August 2014

Wii U owners just not interested in M rated titles

After the lack of success of Assassin’s Creed last year on the Wii U, Ubisoft head, Yves Guillemot says that Watch Dogs will be the company’s last M rated release for the Wii U for the foreseeable future. Wii U gamers apparently have little interest in M rated titles.

Instead going forward Ubisoft will focus on titles like Just Dance another other kinds of games that Wii U owners are interested in. Ubisoft has done a number of M rated titles for both the Wii and Wii U and has experience very little success with any of them despite Nintendo saying that they wanted the Wii U to offer a well-rounded experience for gamers including all of the M rated titles that appear on other consoles.

Ubisoft has been one of the biggest supporters of the Wii and Wii U consoles releasing a significant amount of titles for both systems including some exclusives. Still Ubisoft has not experienced the kinds of sales numbers that it would have hoped for on the Wii or Wii U. Ubisoft has been one of Nintendo’s strongest supporters, but that could be changing if sales of the Wii U don’t improve and Ubisoft starts selling more titles.

Word is that Nintendo Wii title sales only accounted for 3 percent of Ubisoft’s total sales for the last financial year and it does not take an accounting degree to know that this isn’t good. As things stand Ubisoft only has Watch Dogs and Just Dance 2014 on deck for the system right now and at a time when Nintendo needs more titles, that can’t be good news. Nintendo needs to sell more consoles and of course they need more software to sell consoles. Once again here we have the same problem that we have had all along with the Wii U.
