Audi said Alexa will be integrated into the vehicle's MMI operating system, so you won't need a smarty phone to make it all work.

And the company said that using “smart home” controls, people will be able to lock doors, turn lights off and close garage doors by speaking to the car's system.

You can also buy as you drive, listen to music and check the weather forecast.

How does it work? You say “Alexa” to the car which sends a signal to the Audi OS and that connects to Amazon centres – content if played through Audi's audio.

The feature is already being used in a number of its cars and will be rolled out to all of its future vehicles too.
