That said, this is a step in the wrong direction. Apart from marketing gains, phones are almost never constrained by the amount of memory they have. Either 3GB or 4GB on a modern phone is enough, but you can expect that most performance phones in 2017 come with 6GB to 8GB memory. Most high-end phones we saw in 2016 shipped with 4GB or RAM and up to 128GB of storage while some of the highest end ones ended up with 6GB RAM and 256 GB of storage. In everyday work and benchmarks, 6GB makes almost no difference compared to 8GB. Expect the same trend with 6GB vs 8GB phones.  

RAM memory is becoming like megapixels of cameras, where the general public believes that more is better. It is definitely better to have more RAM than less but more RAM does not translate to a performance gain. In case you have a lot of applications running at the same time, you need more memory and with Android memory management a phone with 2GB or 3GB does just fine.

Fudzilla believes that there will be a trend where new tablets and notebooks will have over 4GB of memory. If you refresh your memory, Microsoft did announce support for Windows 10 running on Snapdragon devices and we would not be surprised to see Snapdragon 835 or Snapdragon 653 based devices having up to 8GB of RAM. Microsoft did showcase the Snapdragon 820 demo with 4GB and Cristiano R. Amon, Executive Vice President, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and the President, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, reminded us at WinHAC 2016 that the device demonstrated at the Microsoft stage was running similar hardware that was used in Windows phones today. He mentioned that Qualcomm is committed to Windows 10 with multiple chipsets and multiple devices in the long term.

The rumored Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 that sports Core m3 7Y30 SoC comes with 8GB or LPDDR3 RAM and this gives you an idea that a 9.7-inch device running Windows for x86 will go for 8GB size. This looks like a trend for many devices in 2017 but we can confirm that the Xiaomi Mi12 notebook with 4GB RAM works just fine.
