CES 2008:  Gateway FX for $1,349

During our meeting with NVIDIA we had a chance to see an excellent new power house Gateway FX notebook with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS. The big story here is that this stylish and fully loaded notebook is going to retail for only US$1,349.

Known as the Gateway P-series FX notebook, the notebook will not only feature the NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS 512MB GDDR 3 on a 17-inch display, it will offer HDMI and ESATA connections, as well. The notebook will use the T5450 Intel Mobile Extreme processor and will support overclocking, of course, for the flag ship model, but the $1349 model will use the tamer T5450 Intel Core 2 Duo.

The 17-inch display will be available in both the standard 1440x900 resolution or an optional upgrade to the 1920x1200 resolution panel for a bit more money. The P-series FX will feature a HD DVD/DVD-RW drive on the flag ship model, but only a slot loading LabelFlash enabled DVD-RW drive on its low-end offering. The $1349 offering will also include a 5400 RPM 250GB hard drive and 3GB of RAM standard.

The Gateway P-6831FX will be available at Best Buy retail stores starting this weekend; and take it from us, this notebook packs a lot of fire power for gaming and multimedia applications for the relativity low price of $1349. However, as expected, the notebook is a bit on the heavy side as is normal for desktop replacement offerings. It is a nice notebook with sizzling graphics performance at a good price. It is definitely worth checking out.
