Google denied Nexus One trademark

Integra Telecom has a similar brand

Google’s
request for a trademark on its Nexus One smartphone has been denied by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.

The reason is that the name is too similar to Integra Telecom’s trademark term NEXUS, which is used to describe a series of calling services. The ruling says that "Registration of the applied-for mark is refused because of a likelihood of confusion with the mark in U.S. Registration No. 3554195".

Google hasn’t been very lucky in acquiring Nexus One or Android trademarks either for the fact that planet Earth is running out of trademarks or that Google's "creativity" is someone else's bread and butter, and this seems to be no exception to the “tradition”.

The funny thing is that theoretically, someone could spitefully launch Nexus Two and not be punished. Goojje perhaps? Now who’d say no to that, even if only for kicks?

More here.
