No numbers yet on how many to get the axe

Verizon
has not been saying too much about all of the employees that it picked up through its purchase of Alltel. Sources are telling us, however, that a decision has been made and it looks like redundant corporate positions in Little Rock, Arkansas will be taking heavy cuts.

The axe will be headed in the direction of Alltel employees in the finance, marketing, legal and associated supporting roles. While the exact numbers have not yet been reached, according to our sources Verizon has made a list and they are in the process of checking it twice.  And it will not be a very happy holiday season for those on the list.

All is not lost, however, as those claiming to be in the know tell us that affected Alltel employees can apply for jobs in the Verizon call centers. Why someone would want to work in the company’s call center after being kicked to the curb by the company is beyond us. The spin makes it out to be a generous offer considering the job market right now, at least according to what we are being told.

Sources suggest to us that the cuts at Alltel were likely, but no one seems ready to admit that this would be the case. The news isn’t something that people want to hear and from what sources are telling us, additional areas within Alltel will be affected by cuts, as well, as the company continues to combine the two companies and more redundancies are uncovered.
