Billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch wants to block Google News from using News Corp content.
Murdoch told Sky News Australia, which he coincidentally owns, that he
would try to find ways of removing stories from Google search indexes.
For some reason, Murdoch thinks search engines cannot use headlines and
paragraphs of news stories in search results. Well what are they going
to display then?
"There's
a doctrine called 'fair use', which we believe to be challenged in the
courts and would bar it altogether," said Murdoch, adding that the
company will take it slowly. Murdoch hopes to start charging online
news by June next year.
As Murdoch's media support a rather odd, right wing outlook on
life, the universe and everything, we're really not too sad that people
won't be able to access their content freely.
