5 on 5 arcade football for something different

Following up the successful release earlier this year of the 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, Electronic Arts has announced that they will be releasing a 5-on-5 Madden NFL Arcade title that will arrive in December for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

While Electronic Arts claims that the game is for both the casual video game football fan as well as the diehard, the high-speed, paired down arcade version of the Madden classic should prove to be a successful title based on the sales of the 3 on 3 NHL Arcade which, of course, played into the decision to develop Madden NFL Arcade.

While the game itself is powered by a stripped down version of the Madden engine, it will feature all of the NFL teams as well as all 32 home stadiums; the game requires players in this 5-on-5 format to travel 60 years on four downs to score. The game is said to offer no field goals or penalties, so aggressive play seems to be encouraged. The addition of the thirteen “game changers” will allow players to change the direction of the game with these special plays with a single snap of the ball.

Madden NFL Arcade will arrive in December, but a specific date has not yet been announced. When it does arrive it will cost 1,200 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360 owners, while PlayStation 3 owners will be able to purchase it for $14.99.
