T-Mobile to temporarily discontinue device

As most know by now Sidekick users were faced with a server failure that has resulted in the permanent loss of data, despite the best efforts of Danger-owner Microsoft. From what we have been able to find out, although the company worked on the problem for nearly two weeks they were unsuccessful in restoring users’ contacts, calendar entries and other personal information that was not stored on the actual device itself.

Now it seems that T-Mobile has responded to this situation by at least temporarily pulling the plug on the sales of the Sidekick LX. While it is being shown on the Web site as “temporarily out of stock,” we are hearing that T-Mobile is not happy about the situation; and the last thing that the company needs is for customers to be unhappy and looking to get out of their contracts due to this situation.

Our friends from T-Mobile here in the U.S. tell us that nothing is decided yet, other than they are not selling the Sidekick for the moment. Beyond this nothing has been decided, but it is likely that T-Mobile will want to achieve some sort of a comfort level that this will not happen again before they resume selling the Sidekick.
