Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth has released a new version of the Linux operating system for those who do not want to see any proprietary software in the distribution.

Gobuntu removes as much proprietary software components as possible.

It follows the Free Software Foundation announced the release of gNewSense here, an Ubuntu derivative without proprietary graphics drivers, proprietary plug-in components like Adobe's Flash player, and patent-encumbered proprietary media codecs.

According to Shuttleworth, the goal for the Gobuntu derivative is to "provide a cleaner and easier to maintain base for projects like gNewSense."Although Ubuntu is fairly popular it does get into hotwater with Linux purists who feel there should not be any proprietary software inside it.More here.
