Rumours that TVs will become obsolete

The Aussie
media has become concerned that all televisions and set-top boxes will be out of date when digital telly is introduced in May.

Leaked documents reveal the Federal Government is aware new digital TV technology could to make all existing TVs and set-top boxes out of date. Documents obtained by the Herald Sun reveal that digital broadcaster Freeview is asking manufacturers to build into TVs and set-top boxes new technology that looks ahead to the new digital TV system.

While existing TVs and boxes will continue to work, they do not have the parts that will receive programs from the next generation digital television system. This means they would need a new set-top box if the government approves the new system.
