At least on paper

It was only yesterday that VIA's C855 Surfboard platform was revealed to the world and less than a week ago that the VX855 chipset was launched, but it seems like the first netbook based on the chipset has already made an appearance.

It's made by a company called Top Crown Technology which is based in Hong Kong. We can't say that we've ever heard of them before, but they seem to be one of the manufacturers of "lookalike" mobile phones for the Chinese market.

The netbook is simply called the 3G Notebook and judging by the reverse Apple logo below the screen, this product seems to fit in perfectly with the rest of the product ranges made by Top Crown Technology.

Feature wise you're looking at a 1.3GHz VIA Nano CPU, the VX855 chipset (the total TDP of the two is 12.3W), up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 10.1-inch 16:9 LCD display with a resolution of 1,024x576 pixels, a 2.5-inch hard drive or SSD, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and a 1.3 Megapixel webcam.

Other features include 10/100Mbit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, a D-sub connector and a pair of audio jacks. Although a 3G modem with HSDPA support is part of the package, it's listed as a "USB Dongle", so it's not clear if this is built into the netbook or comes as an external devices that plugs into one of the USB 2.0 ports.

There are options for 3 and 6-cell batteries, but no word on battery life. It's also unclear when this netbook will be available and for how much. It's fairly unlikely that this model will make its way to Europe or the US.
