Pegatron boss says industry can fix oversupply

TH Tung, chairman of Pegatron and Taipei Computer Association (TCA), has said that industry concerns about hardware oversupply and weak demand for the Apple iPhone are just typical of the changes the industry face every year.

He said that the ICT industry has ability to adjust itself to market conditions.

Tung said that oversupply was a problem that almost every industry has to face after reaching a certain level pf maturity, but players in the supply chain will adapt to the problem by adjusting their capacity.

He said there was nothing to worry about. Pegatron is now focusing on developing new products, but that he cannot reveal any detail about the development now.

The outfit is seeing the proportion of automated production lines in China rising. It has also been upgrading its automated production lines and its manual labour force is currently only around 10 per cent of the number of the time when it first set up plants in China.
