Windows 10 installed on over 700 million active devices

by on27 September 2018

Does not say how many are now inactive as a result

Software King of the World Microsoft has told the assorted throngs at at its Ignite 2018 conference, that Windows 10 has been installed on over 700 million active devices.

This is a little surprising because the last milestone Vole told us about was 600 million active devices and that was in November 29, 2017.

Microsoft has a few problems in telling us the numbers of Windows 10 users. When Windows and Devices chief Terry Myerson announced that he's leaving Microsoft, he said that Windows 10 is installed on nearly 700 million active devices. That was almost six months ago.

At the firm's Build conference in May and at the Insider Dev Tour in July, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 is installed on over 700 million devices, only to retract those statements later on and say they were mistakes. But today after almost six months of "nearly 700 million", Windows 10 is officially installed on over 700 million devices.

What is perhaps more surprising is that it is not in more given that there are approximately three billion PCs out there. Of course a few are Macs and a couple are Linux.
