CES shows sign of the recession

Not worth jumping over the pond for

Historically the Consumer Electronics Show is four days of glitz and alcohol poisoning. However this year it was like a puritan funeral.

Gone were the hedonistic parties, partner swapping and seductively clad "booth babes" in fact most of the things that made a trip across the pond worthwhile.  Oh and he technology was not that great either.

Not surprisingly only 130,000 showed up which is about 10,000 fewer people than last year. When the draw card is Steve Ballmer you know you might be in trouble, but at least it would be amusing.

The new products were just improvements on previous models instead of revolutionary creations.  Ballmer talked up Windows 7 er that was it.  Sony, LG Electronics, Toshiba, Samsung and Vizio showed off attention-grabbing new flat-panel television models embedded with the Yahoo! "TV Widget" software offering links to popular websites.

It was nice to see Palm back with its Pre smartphone  declared the best product in the show. But it is starting to look like the good old days of CES are long gone.  This is ironic because it happens during a dead period news wise and any thing that is released there is guaranteed to get space.
