22-inches of hi-def fun for under €200

Over the
past year the mainstream graphics market has been turned upside down. Powerful cards, based on Nvidia's G92 and ATI's RV670/770 architecture have become dirt cheap, but we spent very little time talking about the screens powered by them.

Well, now it seems mainstream screens are catching up with the graphics muscle in our rigs and turning our beloved cards into obsolete chunks of hardware. We don't like that, but that's the price of progress. Viewsonic has introduced the VX2260m, a cheap and rather unspectacular 22-inch screen. What makes it special is its resolution and price.

It's one of few 1080p resolution 22-inch screens. It weighs just 4.1kg, so if you're one of those people who find 24 or 26-inch units too cumbersome and too pricey, there you go. Mind you, this is a 16:9 screen, but the market trend is to slowly transition to 16:9 and abandon 16:10 anyway.

Now for the price. Most HD screens sell for €250+, and we're talking about 24-inch models. The 22-inch ViewSonic has been listed for as little as €179, although most retailers have priced it around the €200 mark. Getting 22-inches of 1080p glory in 16:9 for this kind of money sounds like an exceptionally good deal.

It's on its way to Europe and it should be available within days. You can find the listings here and you can find the product page here
