Finnish mobile
phone outfit has told more than 850 of its workers that they will soon be out of a job. The company claims the layoffs are a follow-up to its reorganization which started earlier this year.

Not all of the affected workers will leave the company altogether. Nokia plans to shut down its plant in Turku and relocate the operation to Salo. The move would affect 220 workers, although it's unclear how many would stay on. In addition, 450 people in Nokia's Markets unit will have to go, as well as 130 employees of Nokia's Research Center.

"Our aim is to find alternative work within Nokia for as many employees as possible," claims Juha Äkräs, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Nokia. Hopefully, at least some of the affected employees will stay on in other positions.
