Fast enough to protect the network's core

IBM says that by the end of next month it will have released an intrusion prevention system fast enough to handle traffic in the network core.

Normally intrusion prevention appliances do not have enough capacity to take on a network core and have to sit on the edge of a network.

The Proventia Network Intrusion Prevention System, transmits and protects network traffic at core network speeds and has a 15 gigabit capacity.

The appliance can manage 15 Gps throughput, along with a 6 Gbps inspection rate and protection across eight network segments.
