Arm chair athletes, rejoice! This is just for you

In a surprise announcement, arm chair athletes, couch potatoes, and sports junkies will be drooling over the new ESPN Ultimate Remote. Unlike anything we have ever seen before, the ESPN Ultimate Remote (or the EUR, for short) has the ability to meld one-touch access to real-time sports, standings, team info, fantasy info and news from ESPN.com.

The remote features a 2.2 inch QVGA color LCD that can communicate via 802.11 b/g wireless access while at the same time control a variety of audio and video equipment. Configuration is quick and easy, according to the vendor, by using a power brand search utility that is able to get the codes necessary to control a variety of devices. The remote also offers macros and advanced learning with endless options to make the remote more customizable to fit your environment.

The real star of the show, however, is the remote’s ability to provide a conduit to access a variety of information from the Internet such as news, scores, game updates, box scores, standings, TV listings, weather and just about anything you can think of. In addition, it offers the ability to text and IM your friends right from the remote.

Powered by a version of Microsoft Windows the remote offers all of this in a fairly compact package that is only 7.25” tall with a width of 2.25,” while only being .875” thick and it weighs a scant 6.5 ounces. The remote is powered by a lithium-ion battery and is recharged by placing the remote in the charging cradle.  The suggested retail price is US$299.00.

While the remote has not been released yet, the company has partnered with Amazon to start taking pre-orders for the remote. Currently, no exact shipping date has been announced but it is expected to ship before the end of the summer, according to various reports.
