Seagate stops 7200rpm drives

by on03 March 2013

Focus shifts to hybrids?

According to a story at X-bit labs, Seagate is poised to cease production of standard 7200rpm notebook hard drives by the end of the year.

This shift in production will allow them to push their third generation of hybrid flash based hard drives. Seagate will however for the time being continue to produce and offer 5400rpm hard disk drives for the value notebook market. Although Seagate will be stopping production, it is expected that enough drives will be in the available in the channel to fulfill demands from customers for a short time after.

It basically means that we could see more hybrid drives and more SSDs in mid range notebooks toward the end of the year.
