Tranquil PC,
the ultra-low noise PC specialists, are at it again with the first Atom-based Windows Home Server servers; yes, we're talking multiple models here. The two models are the T7-HSAi and the T2-WHS-A3i, and despite the official Atom 230 launch being over a week away, Tranquil has even managed to score some awards from various UK paper publications.

Although it's not stated anywhere on the site, our guess is that both servers are based on the Intel D945GCLF motherboard judging by the specs and the quick availability of both models. However, you'll have to wait until the first week of June before either model will ship, but as that's only a week or so from today, it's not that long to wait.

The T7-HSAi is the smaller of the two servers, which stands on its side and offers either 500GB or 1TB of non-redundant storage or 250 or 320GB or redundant storage. The T2-WHS-A3i features 500GB or 1TB of redundant storage in a larger case, which offers two PCI slots for expansion. It can also be equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet controller and a four-port eSATA controller by Tranquil. Both models come with 512 or 1024MB or DDR2 memory.

Both models feature expternal power bricks which takes up some additional space, but it's a small trade-off for a passively cooled home server. Tranquil claims that the system power consumption is a mere 29W, although this doesn't include the hard drives or any add-on cards.

The T7-HSAi starts at £326.65 inc VAT (€410.20), with the T2-WHS-A3i starting at £351.33 inc VAT (€441.20) and Tranquil actually has very resonable prices for ugprades; for example, going from 512MB to 1GB of RAM is a mere £9.40 (€11.80), which we think is quite reasonable compared to many system integrators.
