According to current plans, Intel will have two mini cards for notebooks that will support both WiMax and WiFi. The top range one is called Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350, previously codenamed Echo peak, while the second one is called Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150 and it also comes from the Echo peak codename.

It will be interesting to see the Wimax in action, as we’ve heard that there might be some issues with overblown range and that in urban areas range will definitely be worse than the promised 50km.

Even the windows and leaves on trees will pose a big issue for Wimax's signal, and as we learned from some conversations from some network engineers, it won’t be as promising as people expect it to be.

In urban areas where you don’t have line of sight you should expect to get maximum 10 Mbit/s over 2km, while in the best case scenario, with line of sight and not so far away from a big antenna, yom might actually get to an incredible 70Mbit /s but never, ever and not even than 300Mbit in second, something that David (Dadi) Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager of Intel Corporation's Mobility Group overpromised at IDF fall 2007.
