Just as it was beginning to look as if last year's major reshuffle of DAAMIT's top echelon was complete, the chipmaker announced it has appointed Ahmed Mahmoud as its new CIO in place of Clay Cipione.

Mahmoud spent 13 years in various positions in Dell prior to joining AMD. At Dell he was tasked with optimizing and refining the production process, Web services, logistics and other corporate operations. Sounds just like the thing AMD needs in these turbulent times. Mahmoud also worked at Eastman Kodak,The University of Houston, and Texas A&M University. He will report directly to AMD CEO, Hector Ruiz.

For AMD's sake we hope that this latest appointment will indeed make a difference and allow it to catch up with Intel.
