Has very basic specs

UK system integrator Elonex is to launch its own low-cost notebook at the Education Show in Birmingham on the 28th of February, called The One; and this time we're talking super affordable at £99 or €132.

However, don't get too excited about this machine, as the specifications are very basic. It will, of course, run Linux to keep the cost down, but the rest of the specifications are unlikely to get anyone too excitied.

It will be using a 300MHz x86 CPU and it can be equiped with either 128 or 256MB of DDR2 memory, has 1GB of built-in flash storage which will be complemented by a wrist band style USB drive.

Other features include WiFi, a 7in 800x480 resolution display, wired 10/100Mbit Ethernet, a pair of USB 2.0 ports and finally a pair of audio jacks. One interesting feature is that the keyboard is detachable, although The One doesn't have a touch screen; instead, it relies on a built-in pointer controller on the back of the device.

Still, considering the super low price and the target market, this might become more popular than the OLPC in the long run, but time will tell.

You can find some additional information here, here and lastly from what appears to be the manufacturer of the device here
