Microsoft might buy Skype

by on09 May 2011

Or at least invest
The dark satanic rumour mill has managed to turn out a hell on earth yarn that Microsoft is in talks with Skype.

Word on the street is that Microsoft wants to either buy the Luxembourg-based outfit, partnering with it, or at the very least invest. Corporate attorneys and other senior managers were said to be working late over the weekend to hatch out a deal and an announcement may be made later this week.

If Microsoft does buy it, it would get a big boost in the hotly contested enterprise collaboration market places. It would be useful in the war against Cisco and Google and give Microsoft an application/service that can help with the adoption of the future versions of Windows Mobile operating system.

It would mean that carriers might have to listen to Microsoft.  Many of them looking to partner with Skype as they start to transition to LTE-based networks. Microsoft is not the only company that has been paired up to Skype by the rumour mill. Facebook is another suitor as is Google.
