Not sure why

Open
source desktop environment KDE has decided to port itself across to the proprietary Windows and Mac OS-X operating systems.

The software will also run the core KDE desktop programs, the KOffice suite, and the Amarok music player. It has been made possible thanks to Trolltech's Qt development toolkit, the underlying framework used by KDE software.

Other technologies are the Phonon multimedia abstraction layer and the Solid hardware wrapper library, which make it easier to work with the likes of Windows. However, it is not clear who would actually want to do this. Windows and the Mac OS-X both have pretty good desktop environments.

Still, you have to admire the technology that makes this possible.
