From what we've heard from some very reliable sources, AMD's upcoming RS780 IGP chipset won't even break a sweat against Nvidia's new GeForce 8200 IGP for AMD processors when it comes to 3D performance.

We don't know how well the two compare when it comes to video decoding, but Nvidia made some bold claims yesterday at the announcement of the GeForce 8200 IGP. As AMD has integrated its UVD engine into the RS780, we'll just have to wait and see who comes out on top here.

The RS780 chipset is meant to be almost twice as fast in 3DMark 06 compared to the GeForce 8200 IGP, and we're talking numbers well over 1,000 points for AMD here, and below 1,000 points for Nvidia. However, things might change as Nvidia releases updated drivers; and as neither product has launched as yet, we don't want to draw any hasty conclusions before both products have been tested independently.

It's just a shame that AMD doesn't have an Intel version of the RS780 chipset, at least until the company manages to sort out its CPU performance.
