Up 25 percent over 2006

The Brits have spent 1.52 billion quid on games this year, up 25 percent over last year's sales with two more weeks of shopping to go. Last week saw record sales totaling £87.9.

More than 78 million titles were sold this year, which amounts to 1.3 games and £25 spent per every living human being in the UK. Sounds impressive, and we can agree with Paul Jackson, Director General of Elspa, who says that games have become a "truly mass market."

"Videogaming is enjoyed by everyone, young and old, male and female," says Jacskon, and he has the numbers to back it up.
