Could it be the best value notebook ever?


The
quest for low-priced laptops seems to be a never ending saga for some users. Your editors at Fudzilla like a deal just as much as everyone else, but with laptops it seems more common that “you get what you pay for” above any other factor. Still, for the past couple of holiday seasons, the US$399 laptop deals have sold out at retailers in record time.

Asus has tried a different approach with the Eee PC 701, which is to build a value oriented laptop with a lot of features that is more of a laptop appliance than a full fledged do everything budget laptop. The target is clearly at children or older customers that need a portable unit that is lightweight and durable. Of course, the Eee PC 701 does not run Windows, but it does offer a ton of value with all of its built-in applications all running on top of the Linux OS.

Laptop Magazine takes an up close look at the Asus Eee PC 701 in their latest review. The Asus Eee PC 701 does represent a shift in the way that manufacturers are thinking about the usefulness of a laptop and what is really needed to reach consumers. The review is interesting and worth reading if you are thinking of purchasing a low-priced laptop this holiday season.
