Production stopped

The
fires in California have resulted in the shut down of several key chip factories. Sony, Kyocera and Qualcomm have halted some production in the San Diego, California, area because of fires raging in the southern part of the state.

Sony said its HQ and a small assembly facility nearby making Vaio PCs have been closed since Monday.

Kyocera said it has stopped some production of chip packaging in San Diego as a number of workers have not been able to make it to the factory, which employs 500. A Kyocera spokesman said the firm has been unable to confirm the level of production cutbacks at the plant, which mainly supplies U.S. chip makers, but so far it did not foresee shipment delays.

Qualcomm, which is "right in the middle of it" has shut its HQ, too.
