EC didn't rubber stamp it

Google's acquisition of the advertising company Doubleclick is proving contentious.

While the deal was rubber stamped in the US, the EC said that it had set a review deadline of October 26, when it could approve the deal, give a two-week extension or open an in-depth, four-month investigation.

Julia Holtz, Google's competition counsel, told Reuters last week he deal is positive for both users and advertisers, and fosters competition and should be fast tracked. However this week Yahoo has asked the Commission to conduct an in-depth review because it "raised" important questions about the future of Internet advertising".

Microsoft and AT&T, have asked US antitrust officials to look closely at the proposed takeover, saying Google could gain too much control over online advertising.
