Hynix predicts consolidation and oversupply

Hynix Semiconductor's CEO has warned that the global microchip market may have to consolidate because of an oversupply of chips.

Kim Jong-Kap said that Taiwanese firms should change their market strategy to tackle the oversupply.

He said that business conditions were not good and new players coming into the market need to change their strategy.

He said that the latest slump in the semiconductor market is attributable to oversupply caused by Taiwanese firms, which have aggressively boosted production.

During the second quarter, the price of DRAM chips, mostly used for computers, fell 37 percent.
