Complete overhaul

Skype has just launched version 4.0 beta and it looks as if the company has been busy overhauling just about every feature of the software. The UI has changed and looks quite different in the new version and the video call featuer has been improved.

All the various parts of Skype seem to have become much more integrated and you now get a much bigger contact window in which you can have a picture of your contact, chat history, call history and even more things. The new welcome screen makes it easier for first-time users to configure Skype and to find out what they can do with Skype.

There's also a new conversation tracker and a vastly improved video call window compared to the previous version. It'll be some time before the final version of Skype 4.0 is out, as Skype is planning on spending all summer gathering customer feedback about the beta and will tweak it accordingly.

Only the Windows version is available as of right now, but we'd expect other versions to follow. You can download it here.
