A good number for fiscal year 2011
Nintendo is already starting to talk units shipped for projects for the 3DS. In the past, Nintendo has not always had enough product on the shelves for consumers when demand was high. It is still unknown how the buying public will feel about the 3DS.

At any rate, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed ahead of the final day of the Nintendo World event in Japan that they will ship at least 4 million 3DS units worldwide before the end of fiscal year 2011. Japan will get 1.5 million units and the rest of the world will have to make do with 2.5 million units.

While the launch day for Japan is now confirmed as February 26th, we will have to wait till the launch events on January 19th for Nintendo to confirm the launch dates for North America and Europe. It is still anticipated, however, that both North America and Europe will get the 3DS starting in March.

We will also have to wait till the 19th to know what the pricing is going to look like for the 3DS outside of Japan.
