Statistically, at least

Statistically
speaking, more than half the world's population are the proud owners of a mobile phone.

According to research firm, Informa, the number of mobile telephone subscriptions has reached 3.3 billion in just 26 years since the first service was launched. In recent years the industry has seen surging growth in the outskirts of China and India.

However, this does not mean that half the world geographically has a mobile phone. Some developed countries have mobile penetration of over 100 percent and its owners have more than one phone.
