Review:
Cheap but great

Patriot was not a very common name in the European memory market, but our US based readers know a lot about this company. The key thing you need to know about Patriot is that they are supplying most, if not all of the memory to Alienware.

We had a chance to test one very affordable kit of very fast DDR2- 800 memory with low latencies. The kit is called Patriot DIMM Kit 2048MB PC2-6400U CL4-4-4-12 (DDR2-800) Extreme performance and it includes 2x1GB of memory. At press time it sells for €115 + shipping and we believe that this is a great price for 2 GB. It is so cheap we believe you can even consider two kits with 2 GB. Let us first tell you what this memory  is capable of.

Patriot can easily be recognized by its black heat spreads and these heat spreads are helping to get some very low temperatures and more importantly they make the memory look cool.

The memory is EPP ready and with 2.2 voltage it should meet the 800 MHz speed at 4-4-4-12 settings. Well, we were not disappointed and EVGA 680i SLI motherboard again showed that this is among the best boards for overclocking. Again, we have to add that heat spreads look really cool with Patriot engraved on the metal plate.

We didn’t have any problems to get the memory to work on its specified speed and we used our usual testing rig. The best thing was that we managed to overclock this baby all the way to 1000 MHz with a slight increase in voltage.

We used:

EVGA 680i SLI Motherboard
Intel Conroe Core2 Extreme X6800
Leadtek 8800GTS
OCZ GXS 850W gameXstream

The Patriot P2 is faster than OCZ's Titanium PC2-6400 4-4-4-15 800MHz T2 in Super Pi and you can thank the 12 settings on the Patriot memory. This number can save you 18 seconds in the 32 MB Pi test. The only test that was not stable for us at 1000
