Intel’s third Nehalem-based 45nm design is codenamed Lynnfield. This is a quad-core CPU with support for eight hyper threads across its four cores.
The new chip will also support 8MB of Intel smart cache and it comes with an Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) that supports dual channel DDR3 memory. It looks like Intel wants to move all its new chips from DDR2 and it's likely that all Nehalems will support only DDR3.
This chip will support discrete graphics with 1x16 or 2x8 PCIe speeds and it will come together with new Ibex Peak chipset, something that comes a year after X58.
We also heard that both Lynnfield and Havendale will need a new socket, but we cannot confirm this at this stage.
The expected launch for this new design is Q3 2009.
