Another "trend"?

MSI seems to have followed in the footsteps of DFI and Asus, as the company is readying a mATX X58 motherboard which is looking quite promising judging by the first picture that has been snapped of an early board.

Apart from the obvious support for Core i7 processors, the MS-7593 as the board is known as for the time being, it offers support for up to six sticks of DDR3 memory, two x16 PCI Express slots, one open ended x4 PCI Express slot and one PCI slot.

Around the back you should find a pair of PS/2 ports, six USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA connector, possibly a FirWire port, Gigabit Ethernet and 7.1-channel analog audio jacks. Other features include seven SATA connectors, one IDE port, headers for six USB 2.0 ports and an onboard power button.

The chipset cooling isn't the final version, we'd expect that MSI will fit some kind of heatpipe cooling solution to the board before it hits retail. There's no word on when this board will be available, but it doesn't look like it's too far away.
